3 Things You Missed in Drake's New Music Video
... and how they can make you a better marketer

drake
What's up friends,
In case you didn't see, Drake surprise dropped visuals for his song Jumbotron Sh*t Poppin'.
"But Stewart, this is a marketing newsle"- HOLD ON.
The guy is a hell of a marketer, and we can all take notes from what he did.
Here are 3 things you missed from the video.
At the end, I'll explain how it can tie in to your marketing strategy.
The Cameos
The guy is tapped in.
Cameos in the video included Central Cee, Lil Baby, French Montana, and Mike Tyson.

Mike Tyson in Drake's new music video.
Can you get Mike Tyson to appear in an ad for your B2B Saas? Probably not.
...but man, I'd LOVE to see that.
The point here though is that they were all quick clips (<1 second), but they add a layer, or element of surprise to the video that isn't spoken about or advertised.
This is going to be a common theme, keep reading.
The Jewelry
For those who don't know, Pharell started an auction service a few months ago. As a part of the launch, he auctioned off 1/1 jewelry pieces from his collection.
Someone purchased millions of dollars worth of pieces from the auction.
The winner was anonymous, until now.
Drake used the video to show off that he won the pieces.

Drake and his new ice.
If you care to know, he wore:
A Gold PSP: ($20,000)
9 carat Oakley sunglasses:($62,000)
Dual skateboard penant:($103,000)
Pharell's Brain Chain: ($150,000)
NERD Pendant Chain, by Jacob and Co. ($2,184,000)
Get your MRR up.
Aside from the SILLY amount of money being flaunted in the video, this was another layer of surprise, - an easter egg, if you will - that generated a lot of buzz online.
These are things that aren't explicitly promoted, but are great marketing tools.
Document, Don't Create
If you get real quiet, you can hear Gary Vee screaming "content" somewhere .
He coined the term, but Drake executes it very well.

Opening shot of Drake's new music video.
There's no plot. No script. No skits. No storyline.
Drake and the crew literally brought what looks like a camcorder around, and filmed what they were up to.
Does your email marketing agency party with celebs in St. Barths?
Probably not, but if so - ring my line.
That being said, the behind the scenes look into his life is what's intriguing.
This is similar to the start-up trend of building in public.
Tweet, blog, or post video content about your business.
Product updates, issues you're dealing with, what your day looks like, etc.
Show people behind the scenes. It builds real connection.
What can you learn?
👉 Collab with others in your space. Maybe it's a guest blog. Maybe it's an interview. Maybe it's just a public Twitter interaction. It's a great way to tap into other fanbases.
👉 Incorporate small messages into your marketing content that excite your true fans.
👉 Document your journey. The amount of start-ups and indie projects built on the back of building in public on Twitter and Indie Hackers is crazy. Who knows, it might even lead to an acquisition.
See ya
Anyways, that's all from me today.
