That guy up there is Tyler Denk.

If there was a newsletter mafia, he'd be Vito Rizzuto.

Tyler was employee #2 at Morning Brew - which sold for a light $75M.

Tyler got his start in the newsletter space at Morning Brew. It sounds like he wore many hats, but there was one project specifically he is known for...

The Morning Brew growth lever that has become urban legend in the world of newsletters:

...the referral program.

I won't get into the back-end tech here (it is still very impressive), but the rewards system went as follows:

In an October 2020 post on the Morning Brew site, it stated that 35% of the (at the time) 2.4M subscribers came from referrals.

That means over 800K newsletter sign-ups came from this behemoth.

Tyler would go onto work as a product lead at YouTube Music, but would start building Beehiiv.

The vision for Beehiiv was as follows:

He'd already spent 3 years at Morning Brew building a fully integrated email ecosystem.

This would cover everything from ad placements, a referral program, newsletter creation, etc.

... but most of that was custom built.

So, Beehiiv would act as the all-in-one eco-system for an email-first CMS.

Essentially, everything that was custom-built and cobbled together to make the Morning Brew machine run was combined with great UI to make the newsletter creation process simple.

Fast forward to today, the team continues to ship new features - and many of your favourite newsletters - including this one - run on Beehiiv.

... oh yeah, and there's a kickass referral + recommendation program. It just works.

👉 The company reached $1M ARR in <12 months.

👉 They're currently sending >100M emails/month.

👉 Hosted + helped The Milk Road scale to >250,000 sign-ups in one year, and get acquired.
